Tell me a little about Life Christian Academy/Académie Vie Chrétienne?
LCA/AVC is an evangelical Christian school based on the complete teaching of the Bible.  It is an independent, non-profit and cooperative-school, where the School Board, teachers and the parents all combine to provide the best in Christian Education
The school was founded by the Life Centre in 1982, and operated by the church until 2006/07. Life Christian Academy joined with Academie Réveil in the summer of 2007, to form a school which is attended by children of Christian families that are members and adherents to various churches in the region. In 2010 the school changed its name to Life Christian Academy International to set the stage for growth via an online community.
LCA/AVC is a Member of Association of Christian Schools International and is a non-profit corporation.
What are your office and school hours?
Office Hours:
9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
School Hours:
8:10 a.m. – Doors open
8:25 a.m. – Students are to be in their classrooms ready to begin their day
10:15 to 11:00 a.m. – First Break and recess
12:30 to 1:15 p.m. – Lunch and recess
3:30 p.m. – School ends
Do you have a dress code?
Yes each student is required to wear their school uniform every day except on special designated days. Students are also required to purchase from the school an official LCA/AVC navy blue gym shirt.
Do you offer French Immersion?
No, but we do offer a French program called Rosetta Stone for grades 1 to 12. The Rosetta Stone French program enables students to progress at their own pace building upon concepts taught and strengthening their listening, speaking, comprehension, reading and writing skills. 
Where are you located?
We are located at 1080 St. Pierre Street in Orleans.  Coming from the west end, Take the 417 E to 174 E, take the Place D’Orleans mall exit and bear right on Place D’Orleans Drive, make a right on St. Joseph Blvd and right on St. Pierre Street. Coming from the East, Take 174 W to the Champlain Street Exit, turn left on Champlain, Right on Place D’Orleans Drive, turn right on St. Joseph, turn right on St. Pierre Street. We are located at the end of the road.
Is busing available?
No, we do not provide busing however 98% of our families car pool.  A list of families with addresses and phone numbers is distributed in August. This list can be utilized to secure car pooling for your child.
What is your policy on families who go on extended holidays?
Parents who remove their child for an extended period of time must meet with the teacher to receive the student’s work   The parent is fully responsible in seeing that their child does not fall behind in their studies. Students are responsible to meet with his/her teacher as soon as the student returns to write any missed tests. Students who fail to complete the work assigned while on holidays may result in receiving a zero and/or loss of upcoming privileges.
What is your policy on snow days?
The closing of the school will be decided by the discretion of the principal and staff.   However, the school will automatically close if the school buses for the Ottawa school board are not running due to severe weather.
What happens if we are running late due to weather or traffic?
We are aware emergencies arise due to weather, traffic or emergencies; therefore we require that you call the school so we may notify your child’s teacher. Late fees do not apply in these cases.
Do your students participate in standardized testing?
Every few years in the spring the school administers the Canadian Achievement Testing to grades 1 to 12. Some students will also receive the ACE Diagnostic Test. This provides the parents and the school with an indication of grade placement and areas the student is excelling in and areas where the student may need additional assistance.
Does my child need to be four or five years old before they enter Junior Kindergarten or Senior Kindergarten for the start of the school year?
Your child/children must be turning four or five by December 31. Also all children must be potty-trained before beginning school.
Do I have to volunteer or participate in fundraising incentives?
Volunteering is a vital aspect of the success of LCA/AVC. The goal of the Volunteer program is to give parents, relatives, grandparents, or friends of students and opportunity to donate their time and talents to the students and to help with the everyday needs of providing a Christian education in the east end of Ottawa. In reference to fundraising each family is required to participate in fundraising. Fundraising aids in helping us earn money for specific projects at the school and toward tuition costs. Every family is required to do their best in raising $250 per student annually through the various school fundraisers.
If I only volunteer once every few months am I still required to provide a criminal record check?
All parents/guardians and administration working with students in any capacity must provide the school with a criminal record check. We as a school ask you to fill out the form and bring in the required documents to be photocopied and the school will submit them in bulk. There is no cost to you.
What if I decide that I want to withdraw my child from the school?
We expect all parents to have fully considered the financial commitment they are making in choosing to enroll their children in LCA/AVC. A family withdrawing their child/children from LCA/AVC before the school year is completed will be required to pay the entire year's tuition. When we accept a child or children to LCA/AVC we commit all the resources to fulfill the school’s obligations (salary, rent, curriculum, insurance, phone, utilities, etc) in order for your children to receive the best education.
